Janutex is Building a Future Based on the Digital Product Passport
Janutex is reshaping the market for pet textiles by making the Digital Product Passport (DPP) the foundation of the entire range. The DPP acts as a digital identifier for every product. By scanning the code on the product label with a phone, the garment’s origin, material composition and care instructions are available in a single scan. The passport presents all the essential information clearly, making it easier for customers to make responsible choices and care for their Janutex garments correctly throughout their life. The result is a clear business model that scales and opens new revenue streams around product care and circulation. Our aim is to use the DPP to show a product’s life cycle transparently – from material suppliers through design and pattern making to manufacturing.

The DPP brings something new to dog clothing
Janutex is building a service model in which three pillars reinforce one another:
Collection production offers garments made from responsible materials that fit specific breeds and size classes, with development continuing on the basis of the product data the DPP gathers.
The option to order a made-to-measure garment gives the customer a perfect fit and allows individual choices and customisation to suit the dog. Those choices and measurements are stored in the product passport and in our customer records, so a new made-to-measure garment can later be ordered on the basis of the previous one.
We also offer a repair service that extends a garment’s life. Every product is designed to be repairable and the materials are chosen carefully, so it is easy for the customer to wash and care for the garment – and to bring it back to us for repair when needed.
Less waste, more value
The DPP is not merely a link; it is a shared language across the whole network. Retailers get up-to-date product information and care recommendations, which reduces returns and makes in-store advice easier. We also bring together the key data from our material suppliers – fabric compositions, care instructions and the certificates required by new regulations – in one place, which streamlines quality management. Repair partners follow the same model-specific principles, so the customer gets a consistent experience regardless of where they originally bought their Janutex product.
The technical implementation is light and scalable. Clearly presented information, care instructions and batch identifiers are found quickly on the page that opens when the code is scanned. The passport creates a permanent, public page where a customer can quickly check a mislaid washing instruction or the changes made to a made-to-measure model. The information is available in Finnish and English, for local customers and international partners alike. Our aim is practical: we want the important information to follow the product from the moment of purchase, through washing and made-to-measure updates, all the way to possible reuse and recycling.
At Janutex we want dog clothing to be practical in daily life, long-lasting, easy to care for and verifiably transparent about its origin. We give customers the same information we ourselves use when choosing materials for production. The Digital Product Passport delivers the essentials in a single scan, and we hope this extends the life of our garments and supports responsible choices. Every product therefore comes with an intelligent companion: it tells you what the product is made of, how to care for it and how its value is preserved – from the first walk all the way to a new owner who finds it second-hand.
We hope the Digital Product Passport will be more than a code. For Janutex it is a new way to design, make and use dog clothing – and above all a necessary step towards a circular economy in pet garment manufacturing.
