These products are not alternatives to each other. Season pants, a belly band and a recovery suit look similar from the outside, but each is built for a different situation — and the wrong choice simply does not work. This page sets out which is which.

Season

A season typically lasts a couple of weeks and comes round twice a year. Janutex season pants fasten with hook-and-loop, so they go on and off quickly — which matters more than you would think, because they get changed several times a day. The inner pocket takes a sanitary pad, kitchen paper or whatever else you prefer, so you decide what goes in and what it costs.

Sizes 0–7 cover small dogs through to large. They machine wash at 40 °C without fabric softener, so two pairs usually see you through the whole season.

Marking

A belly band solves a different problem: a male marking indoors. A panty liner, sanitary towel or newborn nappy goes inside the band, absorbing the moisture and keeping the dog dry.

It also works as a training aid. Most males find urinating into the band unpleasant and gradually stop the habit, so the band is often a solution rather than only a defence. It is particularly useful when travelling, at a summer cabin or visiting friends, where a single accident can spoil the whole visit.

Recovery after surgery

The recovery suit is a light overall for after spaying, neutering or other surgery. It is made from breathable polyester mesh knit (180 g) and covers the belly and groin. A flap at the back means a female can relieve herself without the suit coming off. The cut is unisex and fits cats as well as dogs.

For many dogs it is a calmer option than a plastic cone, which blocks their view and catches on doorways. It can also cover sores on the flanks or back, and stops snow and twigs irritating the skin outdoors.

An important limit: always follow your vet’s instructions. If your vet has prescribed a cone, a recovery suit does not replace it without their approval, and it should not be used on a wound your vet has said to leave uncovered. Drooling

In some breeds drooling is constant, and a wet chest coat starts to smell quickly. Our towelling bibs are soft cotton terry that absorbs moisture. There are two fastenings: a stretch rib neck sits closer and stays put better, while a wide elastic is quicker on and off around mealtimes.

The ribbed version measures about 25 cm below the neck. The elasticated version comes in two sizes: large 27 cm and small 24 cm.

Paw protection
