Choosing a dog overall by body shape
A size chart tells you back length. It does not tell you whether the dog has a deep chest, short legs or a narrow waist — and that is precisely where most dog clothing fails. Janutex overalls and coats therefore come in separate cuts for different builds, within the same size.
The cuts at a glance
| Cut | Built for | Typical breeds |
|---|---|---|
| MK | Long body, short legs, low ground clearance | Dachshund, basset |
| F | Roomier body, slightly shortened legs | Small terriers, coton de tuléar |
| L | Roomier body, standard legs | Stocky medium breeds |
| V | Poodle build and coat | Poodle, bichon |
| H | Shaped for the coton de tuléar | Coton de tuléar |
| W | Sighthound deep chest and narrow waist (W01 60 cm, W02 70 cm) | Whippet, Italian greyhound |
| XL | Broader body panel | Broad-chested and stocky dogs |
| Female / male | Separate cuts around the belly | All breeds |
Why male and female are different cuts
This is the detail most owners only notice after their first soaked overall. A male needs more room and a shorter line under the belly so the garment does not get wet at every stop. A female can take a longer, more protective belly line. Most Janutex overalls therefore come in separate cuts for each — not merely as a colour option.

Breed-specific guides
We have written separate guides for the breeds that raise the most sizing questions: dachshund, poodle, sighthounds, French bulldog, cocker spaniel, chihuahua, Yorkshire terrier, hairless breeds and small dogs generally.
If your dog fits none of the cuts
For mixed breeds and unusual proportions a stock cut is not always enough. We also make to measure — book a fitting or get in touch and we will go through the measurements with you. Start with the measuring guide even so: most of the time a stock cut does fit, once the measurements are taken properly.
