Most overall purchases go wrong the same way: someone buys a warm overall when what they needed was a dry one, or the other way round. Warmth and staying dry are two different jobs, and no single overall does both perfectly. This page sets out what each Janutex overall is actually built to protect against.

Rain and mud

The Mud Overall is built for one job: keeping the dog dry and clean. The water column is 4000 mm, the shell is a rubber-membrane fabric, and inside there is a slippery breathable PU membrane that makes it easier to get on. Reflectors sit on the back, chest and legs. There is no thermal lining, and there should not be — wet and cold are solved in separate layers.

If your dog hates water in its ears, take the version with a fixed hood. If you already own a hoodless overall, the Rain Hood is made from the same fabric and shaped to pair with it.

When the weather turns mid-walk

A Finnish spring or autumn is rarely one kind of weather. The Combination Overall splits the garment in two: the body is light, breathable polyester mesh knit (min. 180 g), while the legs and belly are a durable waterproof polyester–cotton blend with a 4000 mm water column. The dog does not overheat in a full waterproof, but the legs and belly stay dry.

It is also the best winter pick for breeds whose coat balls up with snow. In fairness though: the back panel is breathable, not waterproof. In a downpour, the back will get wet.

Cool and dry

The Fleece Overall warms but soaks through. It is at its best on dry autumn and spring days, as indoor warmth for a short-coated dog, and as a layer under the mud overall when frost and wet arrive on the same day. Breed cuts MK, F, L, V and H appear with the size selection.

Frost

There are two options in the cold. The Thermal Overall pairs a coated shell fabric with a soft Polar fleece lining. The Thermal Overall Pallo gets its warmth from a fibre-wadding fill that is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified and contains 75–85 % recycled polyester.

The coat decides it. The Pallo has a slippery inner lining that tangles a long coat noticeably less — if you have a poodle, a bichon or any long-coated breed, that one detail is what saves you grooming time. For a short-coated dog, the Polar-fleece-lined Thermal Overall is plenty.

Forest and undergrowth

The Forest Overall neither warms nor keeps water out — it protects the coat. A light 180 g polyester mesh knit stops debris, twigs and snowballs catching in the fur, and hook-and-loop cuffs stop paws slipping inside. On a fluffy dog this is a year-round work garment, not weather protection.

Layering works on dogs too

The commonest mistake is buying one overall for the whole year. In practice the combination that works is a mud overall year-round with a fleece overall underneath when the frost bites. The same waterproof shell then serves from autumn to spring, and warmth is adjusted with the layer beneath — exactly as you would dress yourself.

Why we do not publish temperature ratings

You will not find a promise of “suitable to −25 °C” on this page. How much warmth a dog needs depends on breed, coat, age, weight, condition, and whether it is moving or standing still — the same overall can be too warm for a running sighthound and too cool for a dog waiting in one spot. So we tell you the construction instead: the lining, the fill and the water column. From those you can judge what your own dog needs.

Once the weather is settled, measure

The wrong size causes more returns than the wrong model. Measure your dog’s back from the neck to the base of the tail and check it against the measuring guide. If your dog falls between two sizes or is built unusually, see overalls by body shape: the MK, F, L, V and H cuts are drawn for different builds.
