French bulldog clothes

Frontpage » French bulldog clothes – the F model for a stocky build

French bulldog clothes have to be cut for an unusual build: a broad chest, a thick neck, a stocky body and short legs. Standard sizing pulls at the chest and hangs at the legs. The Janutex F model is made for exactly this shape — a roomier body with slightly shortened legs. Everything is sewn in Finland.

Why does a French bulldog need clothes?

A French bulldog’s short coat does not insulate, and as a flat-faced breed its temperature regulation is limited in both directions: heat escapes in winter and is hard to shed in summer. In rain and slush a low-slung body gets wet quickly. A warm, waterproof layer from October to April keeps muscles warm and walks pleasant.

In hot weather the direction reverses: then shade, a cooling product and an early-morning walk are what help.

What fits a French bulldog?

  • F model: a roomier body and shortened legs suit bulldog proportions.
  • Room at chest and neck: the garment must not pull across a broad chest or crowd the neck.
  • Flexible armpits: a stocky dog chafes easily in tight armpits.
  • Easy to put on: a back zip beats a belly fastening on a stiff-bodied dog.

Choosing a size for a French bulldog

A French bulldog typically takes 35 F–45 F. Measure the chest girth at its widest — on a bulldog it decides the size more often than the back length. See the measuring guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does a French bulldog need clothes in winter?

Yes — a French bulldog's coat is short and thin with no undercoat, so it feels the cold quickly in freezing weather. As a flat-faced breed it also regulates its temperature less efficiently than other dogs, so protection from both cold and heat is the owner's responsibility.

What is the F model?

F is the Janutex cut with a roomier body and slightly shortened legs — made for a stocky, broad-chested, short-legged dog like the French bulldog.

What should I watch for in a French bulldog's garment?

A broad chest and thick neck need room, and the garment must not chafe at the armpits. Avoid high, tight collars on a flat-faced breed — breathing has to stay completely unobstructed.

What about hot weather?

A flat-faced French bulldog is sensitive to heat. In hot weather the best "clothing" is a cooling product such as a cooling towel, plus walks early and late in the day.
