Poodle clothes
Poodle clothes serve two purposes: warmth and coat protection. A poodle’s curly coat does not shed water — it holds it, and mats as it dries. The Janutex V model is cut for the poodle’s deeper chest and longer leg, in sizes from toy to standard, and sewn in Finland.
Why does a poodle need clothes?
A poodle has no undercoat, so a clipped poodle in particular has very little protection from cold. The curly coat soaks up water and takes a long time to dry, and every wet walk means more matting and more brushing. A waterproof garment keeps the coat dry and dramatically cuts grooming work.
For wet weather choose a mud overall; for cold dry days a warm coat.
What fits a poodle?
- V cut: made for the poodle’s deeper chest and longer leg.
- Smooth lining: does not felt the curly coat.
- Full leg coverage: keeps clipped legs clean and warm.
- Room at the chest: a poodle’s chest is deeper than its narrow waist suggests.

Frequently asked questions
What is the V model?
V is the Janutex poodle cut, shaped for a deeper chest and a longer leg than the standard model. It stops the garment pulling at the chest while leaving the legs the right length.
Does a garment protect a poodle's coat?
Yes, and noticeably. A curly coat mats when wet and collects dirt, and frequent washing dries it out. A mud overall keeps the coat clean, so there is less brushing and less washing.
Does a clipped poodle need more clothing?
Yes. Clipping removes the coat that provides what little insulation a poodle has, so a freshly clipped poodle feels the cold far sooner — a warm layer matters from autumn onwards.
Which size does a poodle need?
Toy poodles usually take 25 V–30 V, miniatures 35 V–40 V and standards 45 V upwards. Measure the back length and chest girth and compare with the size chart.
